South Africa’s Wayde Van Niekerk, the 400m world document holder and Olympic champion, stated Friday he’s decamping to america in an effort to spice up his probabilities of a gold medal repeat on the Tokyo Video games.
The 28-year-old will work at prime US coach Lance Brauman’s base at Claremont in Florida and practice alongside world 200m champion Noah Lyles and Olympic 400m gold medallist Shaunae Miller.
Van Niekirk, who took Olympic gold in Rio in 2016 with a world document time of 43.03sec, might be abandoning his longtime coaching base at Bloemfontein.

Van Niekerk, who suffered a critical knee damage on the finish of 2017, stated he would assess his long-term plans after this summer time’s Olympics.
