Picture: A topographic map of the Cecil Cove Loop. The open part of path from the Cecil Creek Trailhead to the Jones Cemetery is indicated by a pink dashed line. The closed part from the Jones Cemetery to the Compton-Erbie Street is indicated by a stable blue line. Gravel roads are indicated by stable black traces. (NPS)
A short lived closure has been established throughout the Buffalo Nationwide River Nationwide Park on the higher part of the Cecil Cove Path from the Jones Cemetery to the intersection with the Compton-Erbie Street. The decrease part from the Cecil Cove Trailhead to the Jones Cemetery will stay open.
Within the fall of 2020, a big landslide occurred on the higher ridge of the Cecil Cove Path. This landslide was reported to Nationwide Park Service (NPS) workers by an Undertake-A-Path program volunteer in November 2020.
For the reason that report, NPS crews have visited and reassessed the slide month-to-month. Crews say the positioning is extraordinarily unstable, and it continues to maneuver. This has induced unstable soil, timber and free rock hazards alongside that a part of the path.
Because of the instability of the realm and with none recognized protected alternate routes, this part of the Cecil Cove Path will probably be closed till it may be deemed protected. Updates will probably be posted on the NPS web site: https://www.nps.gov/buff/planyourvisit/conditions.htm
